How does Witted Mavericks work?
Our consultants’ salaries are based on the revenue they bring in. Consultants' salaries comprise 70% of their invoicing; 50.7% of the invoicing is spent directly on the consultant's salary and the remaining 20% on their holiday pay and other employer costs.
We aim to find projects that enable a monthly salary between 8,500 – 9,200 EUR per month (based on full-time hours). The usual weekly working time at Witted Mavericks is 37.5 hours and the normal working day of a consultant does not include overtime or on-call work. This helps to support work-life balance and the well-being of consultants.
Our projects usually last about a year. If the consultant does not have a new project lined up immediately after the old one is finished, the minimum salary of 3000 EUR/month will protect them. Our salary model is the same for everyone. It's not based on gender, where you live, loudest voice, friendships or anything else that's irrelevant to the job.
Witted Mavericks Salary Model Breakdown
The salary model is what sets Witted Mavericks apart from mainstream software consultancies. 70% of the invoicing generated by the consultant is used to pay the consultant’s salary. This excludes holidays and personnel expenses, the rest is paid as salary. This means that the holiday compensation and the bonus holiday pay are paid according to the average salary for the current holiday season. For example, let’s set the Witted Mavericks compensation calculator to 158 h for billable hours per month, and 100 EUR for the hourly rate. Both, by the way, are fully achievable amounts. The calculation will look like this:
The 8009.85 EUR would be the monthly salary when there are no absences. The gross salary to be paid is 50.7% of the consultant’s invoicing. The holiday and sick leave periods are paid according to average earnings (base salary + commission). Roughly speaking, if you invoice an average of 8000 EUR / month when you are fully employed, you will also receive the same salary when you are ill or on holiday. This means that short sick leaves or annual holidays do not reduce one’s income. In practice income behaves the same way as when raising a fixed monthly salary. Of course, one also gets extra money for their holiday (bonus holiday pay) as you usually do in Finland.
The Witted Mavericks’ business model also allows paying various revenue based bonuses. The “company’s” share is 30%, which is spent for paying outsourced administrative services, occupational health services, tools and other purchased services. Sales and recruitment commissions are also paid from that 30%. This simply means that when a consultant sells a gig to themselves or another Mavericks consultant, they are the seller and is then entitled to a sales commission for the gig.
Responsibility
Witted Mavericks consultants are experienced professionals who take responsibility for their own work on client projects.
With their professional skills, our consultants build a mutual relationship of trust, within which they work on a daily basis.
The working model (onsite, hybrid, full remote) is agreed upon by project. If problems arise in client's project, the Witted Mavericks backoffice team will support the consultants to find a solution.

Sometimes it can happen that the consultant does not work on a project, which means that there is so-called "downtime" between projects.

Bonuses
Of course, we also reward people for growing the business and helping others.
If you bring information to our sales team - e.g. about a current project or something else - that leads to new deals, you are entitled to a sales bonus of 4% per month of the turnover you enable. Typically, the amount is around 400-600€/month, and is paid for as long as the project lasts, up to a maximum of 12 months.
Our recruitment bonus works in the same way as our sales bonus. If you know some good people who might be excited about Mavericks, talk to them and tip off our recruitment team - you'll get the same 4% monthly bonus on the new consultant's turnover for one year. Our recruitment and sales bonuses are designed to create a model where together we can help each other in a way that benefits everyone!

Projects
Mavericks sells talent for clients' own projects. A typical client understands what they want to achieve with their digital services, but needs people.
A typical project team includes both the client's own employees and consultants from several different consultancies. On average, an assignment lasts about a year and is full-time - so you can dedicate all your working time to a client project. Our clients are both private and public companies, located in Finland and increasingly abroad. In addition to Witted's direct client relationships, we often supplement the expertise needs of larger consultancies with their clients.
Witted's sales team continuously screens the market and together with our consultants, select the assignments that interest them and work together to promote them. Typically, the client wants to choose their consultant by interviewing suitable candidates. This is also an opportunity for the candidate to find out more about the project. If both client and candidate are happy, let's roll up our sleeves and get to work.

At Witted Mavericks, the backoffice team handles sales, recruitment and practical matters, allowing consultants to focus on client work. We do not organize mandatory internal meetings or events where participation would be outside the scope of client work.
We have cozy offices in Helsinki and Oslo; working and socializing space for everyone who needs it. Even though we are not a company with bouncy castles and snooker tables at the office, we do have all the typical software company’s amenities.

Holidays
Our consultants accrue annual leave in exactly the same way as other employees. The holiday pay is based on commission-based earnings in the year of the holiday: if you have earned an average salary of 9000 EUR/month, your holiday pay is also 9000 EUR plus 50% holiday pay.
In the event of sickness, the sick pay is paid at the average hourly rate of commission for the previous 6 months. This means that occasional illnesses have virtually no impact on earnings. Of course, we don't want to encourage people to work while under the weather.
